The Dean Hanson Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on September 12th this year. The Dean Hanson Scholarship Committee is well under way, collecting $2000.00 in hole sponsors so far. The next meeting for this year’s golf tournament will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Elks Club at noon.

A Special Shareholders Meeting of the Colorado Real Estate Network (CREN) will be held on July 28th, in Durango. Bonnie Leighton, Brenda Bates, Denise Unrein and I will be attending.

Scott Peterson, General Counsel for CAR, will be presenting a CE Class on September 30, 2015 from 9:00-11:00 at First National Bank on Legal Hot Topics. The cost will be $10.00 and members will receive 2 CE credits.  Terry McCabe and Denise work hard to bring us as many classes as they can and we are fortunate to have Scott come to us for just $10.00 each.  Let’s make a good showing for the class.

President Elect Brenda is still working on the website hosting, the current website is fourcornersboardofrealtors.net

The Annual Board Barbeque will be held on August 6, 2015 at Gerry and Ralph Parker’s residence. Three of our affiliates are donating funds for beverages and the Board will supply the meat. Please RSVP to Denise.

Jerald and Jo Ann Cauley are hosting a pot luck picnic at their cabin in Dolores on August 1, 2015 at noon for all members and affiliates.

Petition and Sample Ballots have gone out this week. The Board will have openings this year for the following positions: President/Elect, CAR Director, Director, Secretary/Treasurer, and CREN Director.  If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors please get your petition signed by 20% of the members and submit it to Denise two weeks prior to the August meeting.

Nomination forms for REALTOR of the Year was been sent out.  If you know of a REALTOR  in our Board that is considered a mentor of other REALTORS, does community service(volunteer work), participated in the local and/or State Associations, strives for further education achievement or you think has earned this award this past year please nominate that person for REALTOR of the Year.

The Quarterly Membership Meeting will be held on August 20, 2015 at noon at the Elks Club. There will be a presentation from FireWise coordinated by Leila Hanson.  Bring a guest that might be interested in FireWise.  We will be voting at this meeting for your 2015-2016 officers. I look forward to seeing all of you there.

I will be talking with Jo Ann Cauley about possibly doing another garage sale for CARHOF this year.  Habitat for Humanity will be having a city wide clean-up day this year and Denise will be distributing that information. We would appreciate any members that can help on the designated day.

We all know that we have a wonderful Four Corners Board of REALTORS and we would not have that if the members were not involved. However we need some people and help on the following committees: Finance, Professional Standards, and Professional Development. Please let Denise know which committee you would love to serve on.

Until next month, be safe and sell a lot of real estate!!!

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Click, President
Four Corners Board of Realtors

RPAC

Since 1969, the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) has promoted the election of pro-REALTOR® candidates across the United States. The purpose of RPAC is clear: REALTORS® raise and spend money to elect candidates who understand and support their interests. The money to accomplish this comes from voluntary contributions made by REALTORS®. These are not members’ dues; this is money given freely by REALTORS® in recognition of how important campaign fundraising is to the political process. RPAC doesn’t buy votes. RPAC enables REALTORS® to support candidates that support the issues that are important to their profession and livelihood.

CALL FOR ACTION: Stop Patent Trolls

Tell your U.S. Representative to support H.R. 9, the Innovation Act to stop patent trolls and protect the real estate industry from frivolous lawsuits.

REALTORS® across the country receive threatening demand letters and lawsuits alleging patent infringement based on the use of common business tools such as drop down menus or search alert functions on websites and the scanner function on a copier. These patent trolls buy vague patents and use them to turn everyday business practices into potential lawsuits.

H.R. 9 is scheduled for House floor consideration later this summer.   Congress must pass this common-sense comprehensive patent litigation reform to protect Main Street businesses and REALTORS® from patent troll abuse.

https://realtorparty.realtoractioncenter.com/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3895&utm_source=rac&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=trolls2015

Why should you and REALTORS® care about Patent Reform?  You may think a "Patent Troll" can’t disrupt your business but individual REALTORS®, Brokers and Multiple Listing Services have all been targeted with vague and deceptive letters alleging patent infringement to demand unjustified payments for using basic technology like dropdown menus, website search functions, and even office scanners.

Currently a loophole in our legal system allows "patent trolls" to disrupt businesses, big and small, local and national, by demanding fees for the use of common business technologies. The Innovation Act - H.R. 9 - would close these loopholes.

While the opposition to H.R. 9 has been very vocal and is trying to delay the vote, our efforts to encourage a vote have been noticed on Capitol Hill and the House Leadership has signaled that a vote could take place next week. Now is the time to get every REALTOR® to answer the Call for Action and help convince the House of Representatives to pass this legislation of vital importance to the real estate industry.

Please use every tool at your disposal to contact your members and ask them to take action. Congress listens when REALTORS® speak with a strong and unified voice.
