Four Corners Board Of Realtors - Membership Update

5/25/2016

May 25, 2016

We have a storage unit available to move our Board property that is currently being stored in one of my buildings. Denise, Preston, and I will be sorting through it and getting rid of some things. We will then need some volunteers to move the rest.  Details to follow.

Lock boxes and keys (Risco) contract ends in March 2017. Ours are outdated and there was some discussion about using the same equipment as Durango. We will be meeting with representatives from Risco this fall.

Denise Unrein recently became a notary. If any members have a need for that contact her at the Board Office.

The Dean Hanson Memorial Golf Tournament Committee will be meeting at the Elks Club on June 9th.

Jerald and Jo Ann will be hosting a picnic at their cabin on the river again this year on June 18th,
beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Relay for Life will be held in the park in August. Please let Leila Hanson (749-2789) know if you have some interest in this.

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

NOTICE FROM CREN CEO JEFF FOLLIS: "It is with heavy heart that I must communicate that Janae has
given her notice to leave CREN. Janae has been instrumental in catapulting CREN’s customer service into
levels never achieved before. She has laid the ground work and built the foundation to which CREN can
continue to grow in that arena. It will be difficult to replace her outstanding attitude to truly deliver the
best customer service experience to every single person that calls the CREN office. We are truly grateful
for the example she has set for our excellence in customer service and what our MLS subscribers have
come to expect. That being said, we will take the foundation she has laid and continue to build on
something great. On a personal note, please join me in giving Janae a huge THANK YOU and nothing but
the best in her future endeavors. Janae has set her sights on pursuing her family costume business in
Mancos. From the day I met Janae, I knew that her heart was always in that business, but some family
issues had temporarily created a speed bump for her future within the business. That speed bump has
now been removed and her and her family can re-unite over a family owned and operated business for
future generations."

Carol Click, FCBOR President

Four Corners Board of REALTORS Members Update

 March 2016

NAR is changing their ethics requirement to every two years beginning in 2017. The Board has approved to update our Bylaws to reflect that change. See below the cycle dates for Code of Ethics requirements.  The class must be completed at any time during these established cycles.

Current Cycle:
January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2016

Future Cycles:

January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018
January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020

There was more discussion about doing Yard of the Week this year. The advertising is quite expensive, so Denise is working with Ryan at the Cortez Journal to see if they can work something out.

Habitat for Humanity will be working on a remodel project coming up in a month or so on a home on 2nd Street in Cortez.  We thought that this might be a good project for our fellow Realtor’s to participate in and get involved with Habitat for Humanity.   We will need Realtor® volunteers for this project. A lot can be accomplished on one Saturday if we get enough volunteers. Let Denise know if you are interested. This would satisfy a NAR Core Standard requirement for NAR.

Becca Samulski with FireWise came to the The Board of Directors and asked if we would give her our support to apply for a grant that is available from the Colorado Association of Realtors for local projects. We approved to give her our support.  It would be nice to see FireWise in our area get some funds to spread the word to area homeowners about being Fire Wise on their properties.

The Board approved $325.00 to advertise in the Celebrate Our Spirit Magazine again this year.

Relay for Life will be held in the City Park in August. Please let Leila Hanson (749-2789) know if you would like to volunteer for this great event this year.  This would satisfy a Core Standard requirement for NAR.

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

Western Slope Realtor® Rally is April 13th

Dean Hanson Scholarship Applications are due on April 15th

Homebuyer Education Class will be held on April 16th

Next Quarterly Luncheon will be held on May 19th details will follow

Need volunteer Realtors® for a project with Habitat for Humanity

Relay for Life is in August, details will follow.

BIRTHDAYS:

Bob Toles – April 28th
Yvonne Folsom – April 13th
Brenda Bates – April 11th
Joyce Bowles – April 1st
Mary Hanson – April 24th
Mindy Rosenbaugh – May 14th

4CBOR Membership Update - January / February 2016

The Finance committee has completed the 2016 budget. Everyone should have received this via email from the Board Office. GREAT NEWS: Your Board of Directors voted not to pass the raise in CREN dues expense on to the members at this time. Your dues will remain the same in 2016.

The Board Office has eliminated the fax number and the extra phone number for a savings of approximately $160.00 per month. Scanning and emailing will be the way to go from now on, as most of you do anyway. The current phone of 565-0112 is the only phone number for the Board office. Denise’s cell is 560-1493.

There was a Quarterly Membership Luncheon on February 18th at noon at the Fiesta Mexicana Restaurant. Pam Moore of Regional Housing Alliance and Robert Lindvall from the Cortez Police Department, Code Enforcement, were our guests. Mon-Do Title and American Ag Credit donated door prizes for the event.

A big thank you to Terry McCabe and her volunteers for another successful Parade of Lights.
Relay for Life will be held in the park in August. Please let Leila Hanson (749-2789) know if you have some interest in this. This would satisfy a core requirement for NAR.

It was approved to donate $62.50 to the FirePup program again this year. The Board of Directors also approved a $230.00 annual increase by the Tech Line. This is a great resource, be sure to take advantage of it.  Our Tech Help-Line number is 877-562-3162 - Board ID # is 2230.

The Parade of Lights is on schedule for December 5th. We still need a few people to assist with floats.  All you need to do is be at the corner of Maple and Main about 5:00 the night of the parade and walk down through the floats to be sure they’ve checked in and got a float # posted on the driver’s side of the float so they can be judged, and to remind the drivers that they are not to stop the progress of the parade, only slow down in front of judges booth.  You won’t need to stay after the floats go on to Main Street so you’ll be able to watch the parade.  Please let Terry McCabe know if you can be of assistance, thanks so much!
The Board has discussed having a short monthly membership meeting at 8:30 on the same day as Board meetings. There will be more discussion on this topic, so if you have any input please let me know. We do have several people interested in doing presentations to the members.

Denise has been checking prices and security on storage facilities for all of the things we had stored at the Johnson Building. A Motion was made and passed to rent one beginning in January of 2016 for the year at $40.00 per month.

The Four Corners Board of Realtors® Christmas Party and Silent Auction will be held at the Cortez Conference Center (the old Koko’s) on December 4th this year. We will have appetizers and cocktail hour at 6:00 p.m.; with dinner following at 7:00 p.m. Don’t forget your silent auction item!  If you have not signed up please give Denise a call today.

As you all know, Maxine Keck our past AE passed away November 16th. The Four Corners Board of Realtors donated $500.00 towards the funeral costs after a Motion was made and passed.   We also collected $2860.00 from donations made by our members, affiliates, and others. Thank you so much for your kindness.  Our condolences go out to her family.

The CREN report was given by Bonnie Leighton.    She gave us the bad news that the CREN dues will be going up in January by $6.00.   The good news is that your Board of Directors voted not to pass this expense on to the members at this time.     When CREN gets five or more questions on a subject of how to use your MLS they are posting how to do videos for the members.   There is a RPR Application for your phones now.
There were over 1000 appointments made in October using Showtime by the CREN members.    About half of the CREN membership is using the Instanet contracts program.     Please allow Zillow 24 hours for updates.     FCBOR members used CREN support through email and 37 phone calls at a total of 630 minutes in October.

PLEASE TAKE TWO MINUTE TO TAKE ACTION!!! This is the LAST WEEK to take action on the Call for Action: G Fees.  Remember the statewide goal is a minimum 20% participation. The link is www2.realtoractioncenter.com/gfees.  We are SO CLOSE, but we need everyone’s help to get across the finish line before the deadline on Friday, DECEMBER 4TH.  Thank you again for all of your efforts throughout this process.

Do you like a challenge?
I thought so!!
Well, we’d like to challenge YOU in the FCBOR RPAC Fundraiser! We’re well on our way to meeting our RPAC goal, but you can help us get there!

The finish line is just a hop, skip, and a jump away… and with your support we’ll knock it out of the park!
Contributions may be received in form of business or personal check (made out to RPAC- you may turn those in to Denise.

THANK YOU for your participation and support!!!!

RPAC

Since 1969, the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) has promoted the election of pro-REALTOR® candidates across the United States. The purpose of RPAC is clear: REALTORS® raise and spend money to elect candidates who understand and support their interests. The money to accomplish this comes from voluntary contributions made by REALTORS®. These are not members’ dues; this is money given freely by REALTORS® in recognition of how important campaign fundraising is to the political process. RPAC doesn’t buy votes. RPAC enables REALTORS® to support candidates that support the issues that are important to their profession and livelihood.

CALL FOR ACTION: Stop Patent Trolls

Tell your U.S. Representative to support H.R. 9, the Innovation Act to stop patent trolls and protect the real estate industry from frivolous lawsuits.

REALTORS® across the country receive threatening demand letters and lawsuits alleging patent infringement based on the use of common business tools such as drop down menus or search alert functions on websites and the scanner function on a copier. These patent trolls buy vague patents and use them to turn everyday business practices into potential lawsuits.

H.R. 9 is scheduled for House floor consideration later this summer.   Congress must pass this common-sense comprehensive patent litigation reform to protect Main Street businesses and REALTORS® from patent troll abuse.

https://realtorparty.realtoractioncenter.com/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3895&utm_source=rac&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=trolls2015

Why should you and REALTORS® care about Patent Reform?  You may think a "Patent Troll" can’t disrupt your business but individual REALTORS®, Brokers and Multiple Listing Services have all been targeted with vague and deceptive letters alleging patent infringement to demand unjustified payments for using basic technology like dropdown menus, website search functions, and even office scanners.

Currently a loophole in our legal system allows "patent trolls" to disrupt businesses, big and small, local and national, by demanding fees for the use of common business technologies. The Innovation Act - H.R. 9 - would close these loopholes.

While the opposition to H.R. 9 has been very vocal and is trying to delay the vote, our efforts to encourage a vote have been noticed on Capitol Hill and the House Leadership has signaled that a vote could take place next week. Now is the time to get every REALTOR® to answer the Call for Action and help convince the House of Representatives to pass this legislation of vital importance to the real estate industry.

Please use every tool at your disposal to contact your members and ask them to take action. Congress listens when REALTORS® speak with a strong and unified voice.

The Dean Hanson Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on September 12th this year. The next meeting will be on July 9th at noon at the Elks Club. A Special Shareholders Meeting of the Colorado Real Estate Network (CREN) will be held on July 28th, in Durango. Bonnie Leighton, Brenda Bates, Denise Unrein and I will be attending. Denise is trying to set up two CE classes; one concerning legal issues, presented by Scott Peterson, general counsel for CAR, and another concerning Marijuana and its effect on Real Estate, presented by John Gillam.

The Four Corners Board of Realtors is now compliant with Mandatory Core Standards as of the completion of the Audit/Review, which was submitted last week. CAR is waiting for leadership to sign off before certifying with NAR, which will be done in advance of the June 30th deadline.

Denise has updated QuickBooks to the 2015 version. This was necessary to continue to accept electronic checks. You will now be able to use credit cards also, but remember that there is a higher interest rate charged to the Board for doing this.

I will be talking with Jo Ann Cauley about possibly doing another garage sale for CARHOF this year. The annual barbeque will also take place again at Ralph and Gerry Parker’s residence. We have yet to decide on a date. Next quarterly meeting we hope to have a Firewise presentation coordinated by Leila Hanson. Habitat for Humanity will be having a city wide clean-up day this year and Denise will be distributing that information. We would appreciate any members that can help on the designated day.

The Board will have openings this year for the following positions: President/Elect, CAR Director, Director, Secretary/Treasurer, and CREN Director. Please let Denise know if you are interested in any of these positions.

The Four Corners Board of Realtors awarded eight scholarships this year at the Quarterly Membership meeting that was held on May 21st. There were 54 people in attendance. The recipients were; Brenna Anderson-Dove Creek, Faith Pejsa-Dolores, Sierra Wilson-Mancos, Anakay Hanold-Cortez, Emily Harris-Dolores, Laura Shirley-Nontraditional, Mariah Bradshaw-Mancos, and Alina Umberger-Dolores. The first meeting of the golf committee will be held on June 3rd at noon at the Elks Club.

A CE Class entitled 2015 New Lending Disclosures will be held on June 11th at the Chamber of Commerce meeting room. Cost is $25.00 and lunch will be provided. Please let Denise know if you are going to attend. We are also trying to get John Gillam to do a Marijuana CE class and the new General Counsel for CAR to do a legal CE class.

It was approved by the Board to make changes to the Secondary Membership fees in an effort to recruit more secondary members. The application and new office fee will be eliminated as they pay these fees at their primary Board. The other fees will remain the same, with the exception of CREN MLS fees, as that fee is paid through their primary Board as well.

The trust account for annual dues will be revisited next year. There was some interest when it was first mentioned, but in actuality, no one chose to take advantage of it this year.

The Membership Benefit Guide, just released by CAR, should be received at the Board office soon. Denise will distribute these to your offices.

Lan with Tiger by the Tail is working on an ad for our Four Corners Board of REALTORS in the upcoming community magazine.  This add will show our involvement in the Community.
